Stanford's Library Map of South America
London: Edward Stanford Ltd., 1922. "New Edition" (The British Library also records editions in 1864, 1878, 1890, 1895, 1919).
A very attractive four-sheet wall map of South America printed in black and highlighted with brilliant hand color. The sheets measure 32 inches by 36 inches and combine to produce a map roughly five feet wide and six feet tall.
$450
The handcoloring makes this an exceptionally attractive production, with thick, brilliant outline color applied to the country borders and thinner outlines for the states and provinces. Major rivers are colored in deep blue.
This copy is In the original sheets, which are generally in very good condition. The main defect is a darkened band that stretches across the top five inches of the north-east sheet. A tape repair just touches the Chilean coast (NW sheet) and there are a few other tears that cross the border of the map. In a few areas, the map margins are somewhat tattered, not affecting the map.
