Bromfield, Davenport.
Map of the County of San Mateo, California
Compiled from the county records by Davenport Bromfields, civil engineer, ex-county surveyor.
San Francisco: Britton & Rey, 1910.
A terrific early 20th century map in the classic style of the period, with an elaborate title section and a decorative border. The map is lithographed on four large sheets, each measuring 32 by 46 inches. The full map is roughly 5 by 8 feet when assembled.

This map depicts San Mateo County, which stretches between the Pacific Ocean on the west and San Francisco Bay on the east. It borders San Francisco County on the north, Santa Clara County on the east, and Santa Cruz on the south. This San Francisco Bay Area county is now the home of the San Francisco International Airport and many Silicon Valley companies, which stretch up the 101 freeway, along the edge of the bay. While Stanford University and the city of Palo Alto are technically in Santa Clara County, this map includes them.
The map depicts the beach communities of Montara and Pescadero. Half Moon Bay bears its old name, Spanishtown, with neighboring communities like Arleta Park and Miramonte. Of particular interest for this map are the many ranchos and the ownership of the thousands of lots of land, each one identified by owner and lot acreage.
Scarce: just two libraries have copies listed on OCLC, UC Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz.
The sheets, on heavy, smooth finished paper, are generally in very good condition or better. There are a few tears in the margins and some staining to the edges. The southwest quadrant has a dampstain in the lower corner, not affecting the map itself.
