Reilly, W. H.
$50 Reward
(N.-pl. but likely Sacramento): State Printing Office, 1908.
Partially printed wanted poster (8.5 by 11 inches) issued by the warden of Folsom Prison for a parole breaker who was serving 25 years for "crime against nature."
$175
The poster is a generic $50 Reward poster with space left blank for the specifics of the wanted person. Curiously, the preprinted section reads "...who escaped from the STATE PRISON at Folsom, California...," suggesting that escapes were routine enough to require ready-made posters.
At the top of this poster, seeking one Harry Fisher, a native of Washington, D.C., who was sentenced in San Bernardino County, in Southern California, is written "Parole Breaker." Affixed to the top of the poster is an original photograph showing Fisher in a head-and-shoulders mug shot and in profile.
The crime for which the wanted man is on the lam is a broad one that encompasses homosexuality, pedophilia, and bestiality. The poster is filled out in purple ink and signed by the warden, W. H. Reilly. The name of the previous warden, Thomas Wilkinson, is crossed out in red ink.
Folded for mailing with some surface tears in the left margin where it was probably removed from a bound volume of such posters. The poster is lightly mounted to a backing board using Japanese tissue (easily removable). Generally very good or better.
