By Stephenie Meyer
New York: Megan Tingley Books / Little, Brown and Company, (2005).
First edition (number line ending in 1). A fine copy in a fine dust jacket with the barest hint of edgewear. Signed by the author.
The first in the Twilight series, a publishing phenomenon that pushed first-time author Stephenie Meyer into the ranks of J.K. Rowling, in terms of the number of books she has sold. During the first quarter of 2009, Meyer accounted for 16% of all trade books sold in the United States (USA Today, April 8, 2009). Unlike Rowling, whose first books had very small print runs, Twilight was the subject of a bidding war, with Little, Brown ponying up $750,000 for the rights to the first three books in the series. Despite the eye-popping advance, the first print run (according to Publisher's Weekly, May 12, 2008) was a rather modest 75,000 copies. Due to the massive popularity of the book, first editions are distinctly sparce on the market.
